After setting up your Time Off general settings, the following section allows you to set up your Work Schedules.
Since every company has unique work schedules, this section allows you to configure your company's weekends, holidays, and blackout periods. For example, you could create one work schedule for your main office and another for your international office with different stat holidays.
Humi's default work schedule
Humi creates a default work schedule that all employees will be assigned to. If you want employees to have a different work schedule, you'll need to create one and assign it to the desired employees.
How to Create a Work Schedule
- In Time Off, click on the Settings tab.
- Scroll down to the Work Schedules section and click the + Create Work Schedule button.
- Enter the work schedule name in the pop-up, then hit Save.
- On the Edit Work Schedule page, there are three sections you can adjust to configure the work schedule. We'll go over each of them below.
Overall Settings
This section allows you to adjust two things: the Work Schedule Name and the Weekend Settings.
Work Schedule Name
The name of your work schedule serves as an easy identifier when assigning employees to various work schedules in Humi. You can set the name to whatever you'd like, but we recommend choosing something that's easy to recognize.
Weekend Settings
When employees request time off, Humi will automatically account for the weekend settings and omit any days off from their requests that fall on the weekend. This ensures that if an employee requests time off that includes days that fall on a weekend, those days won’t count against their available time off balance.
By default, the weekend is set to Saturday and Sunday. If your company has different weekend days, you can change this setting to align with your calendar.
Need to make an exception?
Users can manually adjust the daily amounts when making or editing a time off request by clicking the Adjust Daily Amounts button.
Holiday Settings
In the Holidays section, you can configure custom company holidays and add stat holidays. This is especially helpful if you have international offices where Stat Holidays may differ from your main office location.
You can only configure the holidays for one year at a time.
- Check the yearly dropdown menu to ensure you're on the current year
- Next, click the + Add public holidays button
- Select your country & province from the available options
- Humi will automatically add all the stat holidays for the year shown in the dropdown menu
- Next, if applicable, add any custom holidays for the current year
Adding international holidays
Currently, Humi can automatically populate statutory holidays for regions in Canada and the United States. If you would like to add holidays for another region, you can do so by clicking the + Add Custom Holiday button in the top right.
Customizing “Day Observed” Dates
If a holiday falls on a weekend, Humi will automatically create a "Day Observed" date, usually for the following Monday. If you notice a date that doesn't work for your company's schedule, you can click the three dots and select Edit Holiday to make any desired changes.
That's it! You've just set up the holidays for the current year. To ensure the holidays are set up for subsequent years, you can complete this process again for the following years as needed.
Copying Holidays to Subsequent Years
- Use the dropdown menu to select the following year
- Then click the Copy holidays from previous year button
- Humi will automatically import all holidays from the previous year, including any custom holidays you added
Once you've added the holidays for as many years as you'd like, continue to the next section to set up Blackout Periods.
Blackout Period Settings
In this section, you can set up certain times in the year when employees can't request time off.
For example, retail stores may have blackout periods for dates in December as Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year. Adding a blackout period ensures that employees won't be able to request time off during certain dates so they are available to work as needed.
Need to make an exception?
Admins can always override this and make time off requests on behalf of employees during blackout periods, if required.
Like holidays, you can only set up blackout periods for one year at a time and they don't recur automatically.
- Ensure the yearly dropdown menu is set to the desired year.
- Click the + Add Blackout Period button on the top right corner.
- Select the blackout dates on the calendar in the pop-up, add the Blackout Period Name, and then click Save.
- Once you've added all the blackout periods for the desired year, you can use the dropdown to select the following years and set up blackout periods for each.
We've got you covered
All changes made on this page are automatically saved, so once you've finished making changes, you can click out of this page and rest assured that Humi has kept all of your work.
Need to create more than one schedule?
To add another work schedule, return to the Settings page, click the + Create Work Schedule button, and repeat the steps above.
Now that you've successfully set up your work schedule(s), the next step is to assign employees to them. Click the button below to get started.
