What is KYC?
KYC stands for "Know Your Customer" or "Know Your Client." It's a regulatory and legal requirement in the financial industry that compels financial institutions and other regulated companies to verify the identity, suitability, and risks involved with maintaining a business relationship with their clients.
The primary goal of KYC processes is to prevent identity theft, financial fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing.
The KYC procedures are critical for ensuring the safety and integrity of the financial system, by providing detailed identity verification that helps protect against corruption, terrorist financing, and other illegal and high-risk activities.

What is the Complete Personal Identity Verification (KYC) Process?
If your Humi account has roles and permissions that allow you to run payroll and initiate the movement of funds, you’ll be required to complete KYC. This process starts with a notification banner at the top of your Humi account.
Step 1: Using Persona

When you click on the banner, you will be taken to a content page outlining the KYC process requirements.

Click the Confirm your identity button to begin the Persona KYC verification process.

A window will show in Humi, and an inquiry associated with your account will be created in Persona.

Choose your preferred language in the bottom left and then click the Begin verifying button to get started.
Step 2: Uploading Government Identification

First, you’ll need to select what country your government ID is from.

Next, you’ll choose which type of government ID you’ll be using to verify your identity:
- Driver License
- Provincial ID
- Passport
We cannot accept Care Cards
Please note that Provincial Health Cards aren’t currently accepted as a form of identity verification.

You’ll be presented with three options to capture the front of your ID:
For all three options, going to the provided URL will allow you to use another device to capture a photo of your ID.
If you select the device camera:If you select the device camera, your camera will activate and you will be prompted to position your ID in the camera and capture the image.
If you select the upload option:If you select the upload option, you will be presented with a file upload dialogue to locate the image of the front of your ID to upload.
If you select to continue on another device:If you select to continue on another device, you will presented with three options:
- A QR code with an embedded URL to scan from a mobile device.
- A button to send an SMS text message with a URL.
- A button to send an email message with a URL.

Once the photo of the front of your ID is captured, you’ll be shown a preview of the image. It’s essential that the image is well-lit and that all details on your ID can be seen clearly. Choose whether to use the photo or retake it.

After the photo of the front of your ID is complete, you’ll be prompted to capture a photo of the back of your ID.

Persona will then verify the content of your ID.

If Persona detects an issue, such as an expired ID document or readability issues, you’ll be prompted to try again.
Step 3: Confirming Your Identity
- In this step, Persona will take a biometric photo of you to match your ID. You’ll have two options to complete this step:
- Use your current device by clicking Get started.
- Continue on another device, as described in Step 2.
- Persona will capture a photo of your face, and prompt you to look left and then look right.
- If the the photo can’t be verified, you’ll be prompted to try again.
- If the photo can be verified, the KYC process will be complete and you’ll be returned to Humi.
Still need to complete KYB Verification?
If you’re an admin in Humi, you may also be prompted to complete KYB (Know Your Business) Verification. KYB only needs to be completed by one person with admin permissions. To learn more about KYB, click here.
